Раздел оптимального планирования, имеющий существенные экономико-математические особенности, отличающие его от планирования текущего и среднесрочного. Прежде всего, оценки ресурсов (см. статьи Объективно обусловленные (оптимальные) оценки, Линейное программирование) в меньшей степени оказываются связанными с ограниченностью этих ресурсов, так как в пределах длительного планового периода можно с помощью капитальных вложений ее нейтрализовать. В качестве основных управляющих параметров здесь выступают: определение оптимальной нормы накопления, темпы и направления научно-технического прогресса, а также выбор социально-экономических и политических факторов длительного действия на основе программных целей развития общества.
